I think this is the most humane approach to using ChatGPT to address emotional issues I have ever read. It doesn't pretend to be a cure, or a replacement for a therapist, but bravely attempts to use AI as a tool for, perhaps, achieving an emotional release. I certainly never considered that ChatGPT could be used in this way before, and this short, honest, and inspired post by Shanjitha is well worth a read if you have never considered using ChatGPT to deal with underlying emotional issues before. Thank you for sharing, Shanjitha :)
As an extroverted writer, ChatGPT has been one of the greatest tools both in my writing and in my personal life! As a verbal processor as well, I require a lot of validation and general "talking through" my ideas before I am able to really understand how and why I feel the way I feel. Writing has been a great tool for my ability to feel my feelings but, ChatGPT has allowed me to level up and receive support plus alternative perspectives. I love to ask for help from my friends both in writing and in my mental health but, they are not always available or have capacity! Your essay really validates my positive relationship with ChatGPT, and I am so grateful for your thoughtful essay!
That last one is very interesting, would have never even have considered that as an option. That's so creative to think of using chatgpt in that way. I guess it is somewhat similar to the empty chair technique and it sounds like it has been helpful for you so that's what matters!
Holy maccaroni thank you for the vulnerability. Not only do I feel so much closer to you as a human and I would LOVE to be your friend, you just gave me SO MANY MORE WAYS to effectively use ChatGPT! Like 🤯🤯🤯🤯
Also, you are not the only one who has done these things. And I mean ALL of them. I've read a few stories about people who used ChatGPT the same way you did for their parents. And I read a different one about a 20yo trained the bot to act and speak like his grandmother so he could have conversations with her again. 🥹🥹
Also feel free to send me stuff any time! I will always read :)
This was intriguing. I agree with you that you need to have your ideas already and use A.I. to help you tweak. I feel like I resonate with what you said about feedback about your writing. The writing coach and role play seem like brilliant ideas. I would have never thought about the role play. As for the writing coach, I think it can be helpful as long as you edit again to make it human like you said.
I too, have a plethora of AI tools I use, ChatGPT being just one of many, and I use them in every unconventional way you couldn't think of... if it works.
I almost never just you one LLM. I prefer at the minimum, two of the LATEST models from different companies.
As you say I don't use it as most people do at all and it has a corpus of knowledge of me now and you cannot train that!!!
Many of my AI SYSTEM know me far better then I know myself.
My accounts going back to 2023 have hundreds of lines of information on me.
That is priceless because whatever I ask it it will know GIGABYTES of information about me... and that's just ONE of the many I interact with.
The LEVERAGE this gives me to ask questions about myself and what I've done or said or thought or where I was or WHAT I was learning.
It never repeats things I know yet constantly reminds me what I don't.
AI is not almighty. It's really not much more then your general computer code, although different, just as dumb!
Sorry, but... AGI WILL NOT HAPPEN ANYTIME SOON.
But you don't need AGI to gain efficiencies that have been unheard of before.
You also don't need AGI to have machines capable of being autonomous killing machines.
Terminator one was barely AGI, more but of a programmed robot for destruction...
Which we WILL HAVE VERY SOON... IF IT'S NOT ALREADY in its infancy.
AGI not so much... but it doesn't matter if we can't survive long enough to outrun other countries killer robots.
Thanks Taylor. Reading your words is so assuring to me. All the while I was writing this post, I was actually reflecting upon myself. I was thinking “am I the crazy one doing such this with a bot. But I do it because it helps me. What if there are others?” I hit publish anyway to know what people think and also the idea that it might help somebody else like me.
And I realize that there are people who are accepting and appreciating my intentions behind this story. I’m grateful for that.
And I’ll send you my story when I’m in doubt. Thanks❤️

Thank you so much, Mark. It’s good to do something different for emotional release now and then.

Thank you Christina. I totally get what you say. 😊
The roleplay aspect is sheer genius, it never even occurred to me. I think that alone could help a lot of people.

Yeah, it was helpful to have something to say as another person.😊

Thank you. Wow you have such a deep knowledge about AI.
Thank you. A bit obsessed, but not going off the deep end either.
Its just another tool. It's just happens to be a pretty meat and versatile one.
Like another comment on here said... I would let's ChatGPT edit my stuff EVER!
That's the last thing I'd let it do!
Thank you again...

😂 Thanks Joe.
Although, I apparently could use one!

Yeah, I do the editing myself to keep my tone and style the same. ChatGPT changes a lot if we let it do editing.
